Because Kairo is not code-signed yet. A code-signing certificate is a paid, identity-verified credential, and until Kairo has one Windows treats the installer as coming from an unidentified publisher and shows a SmartScreen warning.

No. Kairo operates no game archives. It shows metadata and links that lead to independent services, and each link carries the name of the service it points to.

A provider label identifies where a link goes. It is not an endorsement, and it does not mean the link is authorised, accurate, safe or lawful where you live.

Kairo is a download and library manager, and it grants you no licence to any game. You may use it for content you own, are licensed for, or otherwise have permission to use under the law where you live. That responsibility is yours.

Kairo will not help you get around protections: no captcha bypass, no paywall bypass, no login-wall bypass, no DRM circumvention. Those limits are fixed. The Terms of Use set this out in full.

It means a source for that entry is of a kind Windows Security is known to flag. Kairo is warning you what to expect before you download, rather than letting your antivirus quarantine a file mid-install with no explanation.

By default, effectively nothing about you. Your library, queue, settings, install paths and profiles stay on your machine. There is no account and no usage tracking.

Kairo does fetch its catalog and check for updates, which are ordinary network requests. There is one optional installation event, unchecked by default. Reports and rights notices are sent only when you submit them. Full detail is in the Privacy Notice.

No. Pausing keeps what has been downloaded and remembers which source it came from, and starting again carries on from there.

Kairo only continues when it is the same source. If it has moved to a different mirror or the file is gone, it starts cleanly - continuing across two different sources would produce a file of the right size and the wrong contents. Cancelling, by contrast, deletes the partial file deliberately.

Full reinstall deletes the installed folder first, then installs a fresh copy. Nothing survives - including saves and mods kept inside the game folder. This is the default because it is the option that fixes a broken install.

Reinstall and replace files installs over the folder, replacing the game's own files. Anything the new copy does not ship is left alone, so saves and mods inside the folder survive - and so do leftovers from the old build.

Only if you ask for something that requires it, and it tells you first. Removing a game deletes its folder, and the confirmation dialog says whether your save location is inside that folder (a loss) or outside it (safe). A full reinstall deletes the folder too, which the option states in its own description.

Deletion does not use the Recycle Bin. Keep independent backups of saves you care about.

Kairo reads local Steam library folders so it can recognise that a game is already installed and managed by Steam. Those entries launch through Steam and are kept out of Kairo's own update and repair flows.

It never reads Steam credentials, cookies or ownership records, and it matches by exact App ID only - never by guessing from a title.

Kairo's Nexus registration is not finished. Until it is, mod browsing needs either Vortex installed - which keeps your credentials in the tool that already holds them - or a personal Nexus API key you supply.

Kairo will not ship a shared built-in key. A desktop application cannot keep a secret, so such a key would be extractable from the installed files and abusable under someone else's account.

You can import a .torrent file you already have, and Kairo uses its bundled engine. The file and its history are not published anywhere. As with everything else, this is for content you are entitled to.

No. Kairo is Windows-only, 64-bit, for Windows 10 and 11. There is no cross-platform build planned during the beta.

Report it from inside the app or through the report form. Kairo indexes services it does not control, so links do go stale; reports are how those get found and corrected.

Kairo has three appearances. Nova is the current default; Modern and Legacy stay selectable in Settings, because a redesign should not force everyone to relearn the app on the same day.
